The Cubs did not score for three straight innings after Shota Imanaga left, and by the time they did it was almost enough. Imanaga threw 90 pitches in five innings, gave up two hits, struck out seven, and left with a 1-0 lead that Jacob Webb surrendered in the eighth on TJ Rumfield's two-run homer. Ian Happ's 15th tied it in the ninth, but Daniel Palencia did not retire a batter — two hits, a walk, and Sterlin Thompson's single to right scored Troy Johnston. A Rockies team that left nine on base found the one runner who mattered.
