Shane McClanahan struck out seven in four innings and still took the loss, because eight hits found grass against him and four of them turned into runs. The swing-and-miss was there; the damage control was not. Tampa Bay brought the winning run to the plate in the ninth before Ryan Zeferjahn entered and struck out the final hitter. The Rays left ten men on base. Jonathan Aranda drove in three — two in the fifth, one in the ninth — and it was still not enough, because the first inning had already cost them.
