Matt Shaw's two-run triple, Carson Kelly's RBI double, and Dansby Swanson's two-run homer — all in the second inning, all off Sean Sullivan — built a lead Chicago never lost. Sullivan gave up eight earned runs in four innings. Sterlin Thompson, in the first two home runs of his season, hit solo shots in the third and fifth for Colorado, and the Rockies scored three more in the ninth off Ethan Roberts. Jacob Webb came on for the save. Pete Crow-Armstrong's fifteenth homer in the fourth was the run that kept the margin safe.
