The eighth inning is where Kyle Freeland's night stopped being his — 7.1 innings, four hits, eight strikeouts, and a 2-1 lead that Jaden Hill could not hold. Triolo doubled, Reynolds singled, and Gonzales tripled, three runs in three batters, and Pittsburgh led 3-2. Then Braxton Fulford lined a 109.5 mph double to center that scored Freeman and Carrigg, and Antonio Senzatela pitched a clean ninth for the win. Esmerlyn Valdez got his first major-league double at 110.7 mph off the bat, the hardest contact of the night, and it did not score.
