Kerry Carpenter hit a grand slam in the third to turn a two-run deficit into a two-run lead, and the Tigers added one more in the fourth. Framber Valdez gave Houston six innings, and the bullpen behind him took the lead back. Will Vest took the loss: four hits and three runs in the eighth, one of them unearned after James Outman's error let Peña take second, and Isaac Paredes doubled two more home. Josh Hader needed eleven pitches for the ninth, and the Tigers left nine on base in a game they led by two after three innings.
