Kumar Rocker pitched six scoreless innings and left with a 2-0 lead that Cole Winn surrendered in the eighth on Nathan Lukes's two-run homer. Then it came down to the ninth, and Louis Varland gave up the single that cost him — Elias Díaz lining a 94.8 mph fastball to center to score Brandon Nimmo. Tyler Alexander needed ten pitches to close it. Texas left nine runners on base, committed two errors, and still won a one-run game on the road. Rocker threw 92 pitches, 60 for strikes, and left with a lead. The lead didn't survive the eighth, but the game survived the ninth.
