Kevin Gausman threw 96 pitches, struck out seven, and allowed one run over six innings — and lost, because Nolan McLean matched him and gave up none. Francisco Alvarez broke a scoreless tie in the fifth with his ninth home run on a 95.1 mph fastball, and Luis Torrens added his second of the year in the seventh. Brett Baty's sacrifice fly in the ninth added a third run. Toronto had six hits and left eight on base, and Gausman's one earned run was the difference.
