Colt Keith's seventh home run — a two-run shot on an 0-0 cutter — gave Detroit the lead before the Athletics came to bat. They didn't trail after that. Tarik Skubal struck out nine in five innings and allowed one earned run. Henry Bolte's solo homer in the third at 107.8 mph, 411 feet, was the only damage against him. Ben Malgeri doubled for the first time this season in the sixth, and Matt Vierling followed with a two-run double. Kevin McGonigle singled to cap the four-run inning. J.T. Ginn took the loss with four innings of two-run ball. Oakland left nine on base.
