Dobnak gave Kansas City five innings of four-hit, no-run baseball on 76 pitches and a 2-0 lead, and it held through the sixth. Then John Schreiber came out for the seventh and James Outman hit a 94.1 mph fastball at 2-2 over the wall in right center — a three-run shot, his fourth — and the Royals were behind. They tied it in the eighth on Josh Rojas's single, and Steven Cruz gave the run right back on Dillon Dingler's double, a 106.2 mph grounder into the left-field corner. Kansas City left ten men on base. Two innings of relief cost what five innings of starting had built.
