Max Schuemann's two-run double in the second — on a 94.4 mph cutter — put New York ahead after Anthony Volpe had driven in the first run with a double of his own. Gerrit Cole threw 99 pitches over six innings, struck out seven, and did not allow a run, and the Yankees carried a 3-0 lead into the ninth. David Bednar gave up a two-run homer to Chase Meidroth on a 96.6 mph splitter before striking out the side to end it. Spencer Jones hit a ball 110.3 mph off the bat that traveled 322 feet and did not score — the hardest contact of the night, and it changed nothing.
