Seranthony Domínguez faced seven hitters in the ninth, gave up four hits and two walks, and Cole Wilcox had to come in for the last two outs with four runs already across. Melton gave up three hits over seven innings, walked two, and Seattle's lineup had nothing to work with from the first inning. Emerson Hancock matched Melton for six and gave up two in the third — Colt Keith's single on a 75.2 mph curveball that scored both. The Mariners have been searching for bullpen innings, and what the ninth produced was the version of that search nobody wants. Gleyber Torres and Dillon Dingler each homered in the inning, and Dingler's twenty-fourth of the year was the last run the Tigers needed.
