The Yankees stranded eleven runners on four hits, and that ratio is the shape of the night — walks and two St. Louis errors kept innings breathing, and none of them ended at the plate. Andre Pallante threw 103 pitches to get through 5.1 innings and left with a lead; four relievers behind him walked five more and gave up two hits, and the only run that crossed came on a bases-loaded walk to Jazz Chisholm in the sixth. JJ Wetherholt's two-run double in the fifth turned on an 85.8 mph sweeper at 1-1, and St. Louis scored all three of its runs that inning. Riley O'Brien walked a man in the ninth and still finished it in 22 pitches.
