Noah Schultz recorded one out — the first out of the game — before three singles and a grand slam from Angel Martínez ended his night. The grand slam was Martínez's twelfth home run of the year, a 90.8 mph cutter deposited in right center, and it came in the fifth inning, not the first, which meant Chicago had already used David Sandlin for 5.1 innings of damage control by then. Parker Messick gave the Guardians seven innings of two-run ball and struck out eight, and Steven Kwan and Munetaka Murakami went back-to-back in the sixth. The White Sox collected eight hits and scored in one inning.
