Will Dion threw 4.1 innings of no-hit relief and struck out seven, and it was not enough. The Nationals handed him a lead in the sixth when Brady House drove a 78.2 mph sweeper into the left-field seats with two on — three runs, and for four innings it stood. Sean Manaea matched him with seven strikeouts across 6.1 innings but wore the four runs. The ninth came down to Yovanny Cruz: 23 pitches, one out, back-to-back run-scoring hits from Francisco Alvarez and Francisco Lindor. Jefry Yan struck out three across 1.2 innings to keep the Mets close enough to matter. Washington left four on base the whole night and still lost by one.
