The 4th inning is where it went. Polanco's grounder brought Young home, and Torrens sent one 407 feet to center for two runs and a lead New York kept. Irvin gave Washington six innings, but the three runs in that frame were the difference in a one-run game, and five hits all night is a thin diet for a club trying to come from behind. The Nationals kept clawing — Ruiz lined a 106 mph single for a run in the 7th — but after Scott left with one out, three Mets relievers faced eight men and let none of them reach, and Senga needed eleven pitches to strike out two in the 9th.
