Heriberto Hernández's first-inning double left the bat at 111.3 mph and set a tone the Nationals never answered. Jackson Kent walked 3 in 4.2 innings and all of it cost him — 3 earned, the loss, and a deficit his offense could not cover with 9 runners stranded. Xavier Edwards's two-run single in the 5th was the swing that put Miami ahead to stay, a sharp liner on a 3-1 fastball. Joe Mack drove in a run in the 6th and another in the 8th, and Washington never got closer than two runs after the 5th.
