Yoshinobu Yamamoto struck out eight in seven innings and left with the game tied, which was the most his club could manage after leaving thirteen on base through regulation. Leo Bernal's first home run of the season — a 3-2 fastball sent to right center in the seventh — was the swing that kept St. Louis alive long enough for extras. Thomas Saggese, who had already gone deep in the sixth, singled home the go-ahead run in the tenth and Joshua Báez followed with a two-run double. Teoscar Hernández's 110.6 mph lineout, the hardest ball anyone hit all night, found a glove instead of a gap.
