The lead moved from Minnesota to Detroit to Minnesota in the span of two innings, and Clemens's 25th home run — a 93.9 mph fastball he hit to right center with Luke Keaschall on base — was the last time it moved. Kevin McGonigle's two-run shot in the fifth had put Detroit ahead, and it lasted exactly one inning. Dean Kremer gave Minnesota five innings of two-run ball, and four relievers behind him didn't allow a hit over the final four. Yoendrys Gómez needed 13 pitches, eight of them strikes, for the save, and Detroit went down in order in the ninth.
