Cruz's home run left the bat at 117.4 mph and landed 433 feet from home, and for Fedde that was the margin he could not close — five and a third, four hits, two earned. Jones had the other side of it: seven innings, one hit, eight strikeouts, 90 pitches. Weaver and Montgomery each added a clean inning, and the White Sox — two hits, four men left on — never got a runner to third. Cruz singled in the eighth to bring Triolo home for the second run, which was one more than the pitching required.
