Mason Montgomery needed seven pitches for the save — seven strikes, no balls — and that is how a clean ninth looks. Brandon Lowe's two-run single in the sixth, on a 2-2 cutter, turned a one-run hole into a lead Pittsburgh never gave back. Miguel Amaya's two-run homer in the fifth had put Chicago ahead, and it lasted exactly one half-inning. Bubba Chandler walked four in five and a third and still got the win, because the lineup scored three in the sixth to put him back in front.
