Clay Holmes walked five in 5.1 innings and gave up six earned runs — a starter fighting the zone all night, and Cincinnati kept the line moving. The Cubs took the lead in the fourth on Seiya Suzuki's two-run single, and then the Reds answered with three in the sixth: Eugenio Suárez singled in Elly De La Cruz, and Trevino followed with a two-run single to right that scored JJ Bleday and Suárez. Julian Aguiar gave three innings of two-run relief for the win, and Emilio Pagán walked one and struck out one in the ninth. Holmes finished with 97 pitches, 57 strikes, five walks, and six earned — a night where the command never settled.
