Torkelson's first triple of the season was a 2-run liner to right in the 2nd, and his 26th homer in the 7th gave Detroit an 8-2 edge. Bubba Chandler threw 77 pitches in 2.2 innings, walked four, and took the loss. Jackson Jobe went 5.1 with eight strikeouts for the win. Then the 8th happened. Andrew Sears gave up five runs — Nick Gonzales's RBI single, O'Hearn's line drive, and Flores Jr.'s 3-run homer to center, his 11th. The Pirates got within one. Kenley Jansen came in and struck out two in the 9th to end it.
