Brandon Valenzuela's two-run homer in the second — his ninth, on a 90 mph cutter at 2-0 — put Toronto ahead for good, and Scherzer made it stand: 114 pitches over seven innings, six hits, one run, seven strikeouts. Cincinnati's only run came in the third on Carlos Jorge's single. Charles McAdoo's 446-foot homer in the eighth, his third, was the last run. The Reds had seven hits, and Scherzer saw six of them.
