Scout’s note
Edmundo Sosa came out of Panama City and reached the majors at 23 as a glove-first infielder, and now the Phillies are playing him in left field and the engine sees a bat that's outrunning its own numbers. His EV95 of 107.6 clears the 105.9 league median, putting him ahead of 73 percent of the 372-hitter sample, but his results on contact lag the physics further than 98 percent of that group — a -0.0731 luck gap that explains why a .231 average and .640 OPS through 68 games understate what he's putting on the barrel. Over the last two weeks he's hit .375 with a 1.037 OPS in five games, which is the kind of small-sample correction the engine expects when the contact quality is this far ahead of the season line. Sosa ranks No. 8 on the breakout board, and with 35 RBI already — nearly matching the output from 553 career games — there's a real chance the bat is catching up to what the physics has been saying.
Current signals
The read: Sosa is hitting the ball harder than 73% of the 373 qualified MLB hitters in our sample (EV95 107.6; league median 105.8), while his results on contact run further below the physics than 98% of them. Loud bat, quieter stat line — the breakout shape; he ranks No. 8 of 20 on the breakout board.

A base salary under his own reading, and never subtracted from the cash figure above: a signing bonus lands in one and not the other, so the two disagree on most men without either being wrong. And the sheet does not mark which future seasons are GUARANTEED — a club option and a projected arbitration award are both just a number here, so read past the end of the deal as his forecast rather than as money owed.
Two sources, read a month apart, put this guarantee at the same dollar. That is the check, and it passed.
The tax AAV above is his number under the CBA’s own rulebook, not the average we work out from Cot’s total. On a contract with deferred money the two come apart on purpose — and neither is subtracted from the other.
