Corbin Carroll hit a 0-2 fastball at 97.3 mph and sent it over the center-field wall in the first inning, and that was the entire game. Tarik Skubal went seven innings, gave up six hits, struck out three, walked nobody, and lost — 87 pitches, 60 strikes, one run, and the offense behind him collected seven hits and could not push a single one across. Zac Gallen matched him with six shutout innings, and the bullpens traded zeros until Jonathan Loáisiga gave up two ninth-inning singles and still escaped. Detroit left five on base and made an error in a 1-0 game.
