The Royals needed one swing from Bobby Witt Jr. and one from Carter Jensen, and Kris Bubic handled the rest. Bubic threw 88 pitches — 59 for strikes — and struck out eleven across seven innings, allowing two hits and one walk. Davis Martin matched him nearly frame for frame with seven innings of two-run ball on 82 pitches, and still took the loss. Witt's fourth-inning double plated the first run, and Jensen's seventh-inning homer, 113.7 mph off the bat, provided the second. Chicago collected two hits and left three on base. Matt Strahm threw seven pitches and Lucas Erceg threw ten, and neither allowed a baserunner.
