The Cubs and Padres matched each other in the second inning and again in the sixth, and then the San Diego bullpen gave the game away in the seventh. Pete Crow-Armstrong's second homer of the year — a three-run shot to center — came off Wandy Peralta, who allowed three earned in one inning without a strikeout. Edward Cabrera gave the Cubs 5.2 innings on 99 pitches, which is enough when the relievers behind you keep putting up zeros. Fernando Tatis Jr. hit a ball 111.9 mph that traveled 320 feet and found a glove, and the Padres lost by five.
