Skenes threw 102 pitches in five innings and struck out nine, but seven hits and five runs — three earned — sent him off trailing. Isaac Mattson turned a manageable deficit into a blowout: eight hitters in the eighth, three hits, five earned runs, and the Cardinals had ten. Jordan Walker's homer in the first came on an 83.6 mph sweeper, and his single at 114.0 mph was the hardest ball of the night. Nathan Church doubled home two in the eighth for his second of the year. Hunter Dobbins walked five in four-plus innings and kept the Cardinals close enough for the bullpen to lose it.
