Painter's line — 3.2 innings, eight earned, three walks, two strikeouts on 88 pitches — is the kind a young pitcher has to sit with. The Athletics scored in each of the first five innings: two-run homers from Langeliers and Rooker in the first, another two-run shot from Wilson in the third, and Gelof's first triple of the year in the fifth. Ginn needed only 96 pitches to get through eight, striking out eight and walking one. Schwarber's solo homer in the fourth — 108.8 mph, 377 feet — was Philadelphia's only run. By the ninth, Garrett Stubbs was on the mound, and he threw five pitches, three for strikes, in a clean inning.
