The first inning was the whole night. Three line drives — Walker's single, Fermín's double, Pozo's single — plated four before Jeffrey Springs had recorded his third out, and the Athletics spent the rest of the evening climbing. They got within one on Shea Langeliers's 109.4 mph double in the second, but JJ Wetherholt's two-run homer in the sixth pushed the gap back to three. Langeliers hit one 448 feet in the eighth to make it 6-4, and it still wasn't enough. Andre Pallante gave St. Louis five innings on 85 pitches, and the bullpen behind him allowed one run over four.
