Cody Bellinger doubled in a run in the third and Jazz Chisholm followed with a two-run double — both off Clay Holmes, who threw 95 pitches in 4.1 innings of relief and took the loss. Spencer Jones singled in a run in the fifth. Juan Soto homered in the seventh on an 0-2 fastball at 97.5 mph. Schlittler gave up two hits in 6.2 innings and walked two. The Mets scored single runs in the eighth and ninth — Brett Baty's RBI single and nothing more — and never brought the tying run to the plate. Ben Rice homered in the ninth. Holmes struck out eight in his 4.1 innings, which is a start's workload in a reliever's role.
