Zack Wheeler threw 69 strikes in 98 pitches across seven shutout innings, striking out eight, and the matchup with Paul Skenes lasted five innings before it stopped being one. Skenes gave up five earned on six hits — six strikeouts, but 92 pitches to get through five. Bryce Harper's sixth-inning home run on a 95.5 mph sinker was the swing that separated the night, and Bryson Stott followed with a two-run double and later a solo home run. Pittsburgh's five hits produced nothing, and by the sixth inning the lead was five.
