Ryne Nelson matched Landen Roupp — seven innings against six — and San Francisco carried a 3-1 lead into the ninth. Erik Miller walked three in a third of an inning without allowing a hit, and Caleb Kilian inherited the bases loaded before Adrian Del Castillo singled in the tying run. Then Ketel Marte drove the next pitch out to left for three more. Rafael Devers's 111.2 mph homer in the second had traveled 441 feet, the loudest ball of the night, and it was the losing run.
