Four runs crossed in the first inning — a double, a triple, a single, and a sacrifice fly — and Connor Prielipp needed 85 pitches to record 12 outs. The Red Sox got three back in the bottom of the first and kept coming, but Justin Slaten gave up four earned in two-thirds of an inning in the seventh, and that was the gap. Byron Buxton's home run left at 109.4 mph, and Travis Adams threw two clean innings with three strikeouts to earn the win in relief. Boston committed two errors and left six on, and when the starter is gone by the fifth, the margin for that kind of night disappears.
