Austin Martin doubled in Byron Buxton in the first and Josh Bell followed with a sacrifice fly, and Minnesota had the lead before Boston came to bat in the second. The Twins made it 4-1 by the fifth, and Boston's only early run came on a Ceddanne Rafaela double in the fourth — they left eight on base. Andrew Morris walked three hitters and gave up a single in the ninth, and Isiah Kiner-Falefa drew a bases-loaded walk to bring Boston within two. Taylor Rogers needed six pitches to get the final out.
