Julio Rodríguez put Seattle ahead in the first on a 1-0 sinker at 89.7, his ninth. The lead lasted until Pérez came up in the fifth with two on and singled on a first-pitch sinker to left, scoring Massey and Isbel. Jensen followed with a two-run double to center on a 2-1 fastball, and the Royals had four. Seattle closed to 5-3 and 6-4, and both times Kansas City answered — Pérez again in the seventh, then Maikel Garcia with a two-run single in the eighth that deflected off Emerson at third. Bryan Woo needed 91 pitches to get through 4.2, and Lucas Erceg gave back three in the ninth on four hits before the last out. Colt Emerson's first two doubles of the season came in a game his team lost by two.
