Shea Langeliers hit two home runs — one over the fence in the fourth, one inside the park in the sixth — and the Athletics still lost. Shota Imanaga gave up six earned in six innings, and the Cubs kept coming. Joel Kuhnel came in for the ninth and gave up five hits in two-thirds of an inning. The last of them was Ian Happ's double to right, scoring Michael Busch, and the Cubs had won. Langeliers had circled the bases on a ball the center fielder could not hold, and it was the best moment of a night his team did not win.
