Andrés Muñoz entered the ninth protecting a one-run lead and threw 19 pitches, only eight for strikes. Two of the misses became walks, and the one that found the zone was Kevin McGonigle's line-drive single to right that scored Wenceel Pérez and Zach McKinstry. McGonigle had already homered in the fourth — a 109.4 mph drive that traveled 420 feet — and the ball that ended it was quieter and meant more. Luis Castillo deserved better than a no-decision: 5.2 innings, two hits, one earned run, 100 pitches, and the Mariners left ten on base.
