Eleven innings, twelve runners left on base by each club, and the game came down to Sal Stewart's 106.9 mph fly ball to center field that scored Blake Dunn and separated two teams that had refused to separate. Jackson Merrill tripled home a run in the 3rd for his first of the season, Eugenio Suarez doubled home the go-ahead run in the 10th, and Samad Taylor answered with a single that scored Gavin Sheets to send it further. Yuki Matsui took the loss, charged with Stewart's home run in the 11th. Chase Burns struck out seven in 5.1 innings for Cincinnati. Lucas Giolito walked five in four innings and gave up only one earned run, and the Padres used seven pitchers to cover the rest.
