Bubba Chandler struck out six in 5.2 innings and exited with the game even, and the night turned on a pitch that hit Spencer Horwitz in the eighth, forcing Tyler Callihan across with the winning run. Anthony Bender faced six hitters in that inning, gave up two hits and the hit batsman, and took the loss. Bryan Reynolds had tied it in the third with a double hit at 110.1 mph off the bat, and Heriberto Hernández had knotted it for Miami in the sixth with a single off a 96.8 mph fastball. Gregory Soto threw 13 pitches in the ninth for the save. The Pirates left 11 on base.
