Trey Gibson threw 93 pitches to record 13 outs, walked five, and three home runs in the first inning — from Jackson Merrill, Samad Taylor, and Pete Alonso — put San Diego ahead before Baltimore had settled in. Taylor's was his first of the season, a two-run shot on an 85 mph sweeper. Gibson struck out seven, meaning he was missing bats when the count allowed him to challenge, but the walks were what cost Baltimore. Taylor added an RBI single in the fifth. The Orioles collected 10 hits and left nine on base. Randy Vásquez threw 100 pitches in five innings and allowed two earned runs.
