Junior Perez hit his first major-league home run in the sixth — a line drive to left center on a 1-1 changeup at 88.2 mph — and it gave Chicago a 3-2 lead that lasted four batters. Tarik Skubal struck out eight over 5.2 innings and left with the score tied, and Drew Anderson got the final out of the sixth and the win. Carpenter's double to left scored Dingler and Greene, and Kenley Jansen needed ten pitches to close the ninth. Erick Fedde took the loss having allowed two earned over 4.2 innings, with his bullpen putting up two clean frames behind him.
