Five hits and two walks in two-thirds of an inning — that was May's start, and the five runs Atlanta scored in the bottom of the first only tied a game they would lose by six. Jordan Walker's three-run homer came off an 83.8 mph splitter and was the first blow of a night that wouldn't settle until the seventh, when Tyler Kinley and Dylan Lee combined for one inning and six earned runs. Walker added an RBI single in that rally for his fourth run batted in. Hurston Waldrep gave Atlanta five and a third innings of three-run ball, and it was nowhere near enough.
