Shohei Ohtani threw 110 pitches in six innings, struck out nine, and left trailing 3-0. Adrian Morejon relieved Michael King in the seventh and walked two before Teoscar Hernández drove a 90.6 mph slider to center with the bases loaded. Betts, Muncy, and Tucker scored, and Hernández followed them — four runs on one swing. Jackson Merrill had homered in the fourth on a 99.5 mph fastball and Bogaerts had doubled in a run in the sixth, and the Padres led until the seventh. Kyle Hurt, Edgardo Henriquez, and Tanner Scott each threw a scoreless inning after Ohtani departed. Scott struck out three on 18 pitches.
