JJ Wetherholt's first-inning home run — a 90.8 mph fastball met at 0-0, sent to left center — was the first run, and Kyle Leahy made it stand. Leahy went five innings, struck out six, and the four arms behind him never let Chicago put a runner across. Shota Imanaga struck out eight in 4.2 innings but walked three and gave up the two that mattered, including Herrera's 0-2 splitter single in the third. The Cubs left eight on base across nine innings and committed an error. Riley O'Brien pitched the ninth — one walk, one strikeout — for the save.
