Alex Lange threw 38 pitches to record two outs in the eighth, and by the time Jose Cuas replaced him, Kansas City trailed by five. Five Mets runs crossed in the inning — a hit-by-pitch that brought in Francisco Lindor, Brett Baty's two-run single on a 1-2 changeup, and Francisco Alvarez lining one to left. For seven innings before that, Christian Scott and Randy Dobnak had matched each other: Scott three hits in five innings, Dobnak three in 5.2. Dobnak threw 95 pitches and left with the score even, and Salvador Perez's tying single in the sixth was the only run behind him.
