Mayza inherited a 2-2 tie and threw 36 pitches in the sixth — five runs scored, four earned, one on his own throwing error. James Outman's triple to center at 106.7 mph cleared the bases, and Detroit led 7-2 before the inning ended. Max Lazar gave up three more in the seventh, and what had been a pitcher's duel became an eight-run deficit. Jack Flaherty gave Detroit six innings of two-run ball with six strikeouts on 86 pitches, and Aaron Nola matched him for five on 84 before the sixth inning arrived.
