The game was tied when Parker Messick left after 5.2 innings, and the Guardians broke it open in the next two frames. Messick walked nobody, struck out six, and allowed two runs — one earned — but Ryan Jeffers's ninth home run of the year, a 402-foot shot in the first, had given Minnesota its lead and Cleveland only matched it in the third. Austin Hedges and Petey Halpin hit sacrifice flies in the sixth — Halpin's needed two reviews — and Travis Bazzana singled in a run in the seventh for insurance. Minnesota left six on.
