Both teams scored in the third, and the Nationals scored four. Gabriel Moreno's two-run single had given Arizona a brief lead, and then CJ Abrams doubled home two and Daylen Lile tripled home two more, and by the end of the inning the Diamondbacks were behind by two. Abrams added his 25th home run in the fifth, a fly ball to right-center off Mitch Bratt, who walked five in five innings and took the loss. Foster Griffin threw 6.2 innings for Washington and allowed three runs, and the Arizona offense — six hits, one error, three left on — could not manufacture the gap. The Nationals left ten on base themselves. They had enough runs that it did not matter.
