Gerrit Cole threw 87 pitches across six innings and took the loss, and both Toronto runs scored in the sixth — one earned, one not, on a night when New York committed two errors. Shane Bieber matched him six innings to six, one run on four hits and 84 pitches, and the night turned on Kirk, who doubled in the sixth to score George Springer and then homered in the 8th on a 93.5 mph fastball for his second RBI. Louis Varland threw four pitches to end the ninth, all strikes. Spencer Jones hit a double at 111.9 mph off the bat — the hardest contact of the game — and it never crossed the plate.
